Join us as we mark the close of the landmark 75 years since the Partition of India, with a 1-night only live performance show that you’ve never experienced before!
Tribe Talks is a radical format of participatory theatre, where a panel of esteemed speakers motivate the audience to talk, chat, discuss, debate, consider and fathom the topics of discussion – think the BBC’s ‘Question Time’, but interspersed with live performance, music and film. Oh, and food for good measure!
The live show will delve into the complete, joined up story of the Partition, from the colonial expansion of the Empire, the early uprisings, the culmination of Partition itself, the freedom fighters’ who were integral in achieving independence, and the fallout of migrations to the UK that followed – asking, what is the legacy of Partition from a British Asian perspective?
The show will be split into 3 Acts:
- ACT 1 – Pre-migration
- ACT 2 – Migration
- ACT 3 – Settled Communities
To guide us through this compelling, multifaceted human story, we will be joined by an pre-eminent panel of speakers who will bring their expertise and knowledge to the fore in order to make sense of the stories you share:
SHRUTI KAPILA is Professor of History and Politics at Cambridge University, and her broad interest and knowledge about race, the British Empire, modern and contemporary India, psychoanylsis and global political thought, make her one of the most notable authorities about the impact of Partition.
CLAIRE ALEXANDER is Head of the School of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester. Her research and publications on race, youth, identity and migration has given her a unique perspective into the fall-out following Partition, and how life and times in Britain impacted migratory peoples from the sub-continent.
The show will also feature new writing performances by writers Abda Khan, Mitesh Soni and Samran Rathore.
